KUALA LUMPUR - The Civil Sessions Court here today has ordered actress Amelia Thripura Henderson to pay over RM200,000 to A Aida Production Sdn Bhd over a breach of contract for a drama, last year.

It involved the first payment of RM3,920, general damages of RM90,000 and the cost of filming of RM101,325 as well as RM18,000 in costs.

Judge Zulqarnain Hassan made the decision after finding that the 28-year old actress as the defendant had violated the terms of her contract in the drama entitled "Sekali Lagi Cinta Kembali".

In delivering the verdict, Zulqarnain said the actress has to settle five per cent of the first payment and filming costs for the drama to the company which was the plaintiff.

"The court grants the plaintiff's application for the defendant to make a public apology and delete the Instagram video containing a defamatory statement against the company," he said.

On the balance of probability, the judge said the court had examined the contract signed by the defendant and the company and therefore Amelia needed to fulfill the agreement.

He said the court was satisfied that the company had successfully proven its claims as Amelia had agreed to star in the drama and signed the contract.

He added that Amelia had agreed to play the role of "Aira" as the heroine of the drama.

Lawyer Ashmadi Othman represented the production company while Amelia was represented by lawyer Wan Nurliyana Abdul Rahman.

Throughout the trial which started on Nov 1, last year, a total of three plaintiff witnesses including director A Aida and three defendant witnesses including Amelia testified.

During the trial, a manager from A Aida Production said the production company had to bear the losses due to the breach of contract by Amelia.

Meanwhile, Amelia maintained her stance denying the breach of contract when she accepted the offer to star in the drama.

It was previously reported that Amelia and actor Idris Khan were sued by A Aida for allegedly violating the contract of a drama that has already been signed.

A Aida together with another director Rizal Baharuddin agreed to bring the matter to court to teach the two actors a lesson.

However, the suit by A Aida against Idris Khan reached an amicable settlement while Amelia chose to fight in the lawsuit.
