Cat joins Imam for Tarawih prayers
SHAH ALAM - Besides being the holiest month for Islam, Ramadan is often full of surprises and miracles.
There's a saying where 'When your deeds are pure, you attract beautiful souls be it human or animals' and it happens to be true in Algeria.
On Monday, a cat appeared to enjoy the prayers of Sheikh Walid Mehsas in Algeria.
A video of the cat climbing onto Mehsas, who was leading the Tarawih prayers in a mosque in Bordj Bou Arreridj went viral as Mehsas appeared undisturbed, as he gave the cat a gentle pat and continued reciting the verses for the prayer.
The cat then slowly settled-down on his shoulders before appearing to 'kiss' Mehsas cheeks before jumping down.
The Tarawih prayers are special prayers practiced in the month of Ramadan which involves reading long verses of the Quran.
The 142-second video – with the caption “Even animals are humbled by the word of God” – was uploaded on Wednesday on the imam’s Facebook page, where it has been viewed close to 800,000 times.
Many who viewed the video found the cat’s antics “cute” and “funny”, but it was the Imam's affectionate response to the cat that garnered the most comments.
A follower of the page who goes by the Facebook name Nouri Nouti said “What I liked about it is the imam’s humility and his steadfastnessin his prayers."
While another Imam who goes by the name of BZ commented “The cat yearns for your wonderful voice while you are reciting the Quran,”
In Islam, cats are considered to be ritually clean which is why they're allowed to enter homes and even mosques.
A companion of Prophet Muhammad was given the name Abu Hurairah, which means "father of cats." Abu Hurairah was given this name because wherever he went, he always had a cat with him.
