Double Six full report will end all questions for next of kin
KOTA KINABALU - The federal government's decision to reveal the full report of the Double Six tragedy will end all questions and speculations on the accident, which claimed the lives of 11 people, including the Sabah Chief Minister at that time, Tun Fuad Stephens, on June 6, 1976.
Warisan Information Chief Datuk Mohd Azis Jaman said the decision taken was a good step for the people in the state and the next of kin involved.
"Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's announcement today was welcomed by many Sabahans after waiting for a long time for the outcome of the crash report.
"This will end all questions and speculations," he said in a statement on Wednesday.
He said the tragedy was still fresh in the minds of many Sabahans.
"The questions and speculations are often raised every year when a memorial service is done for those who died at the incident site in Sembulan.
"Warisan thanks the federal government for agreeing to reveal the full report of the Double Six tragedy and to bring closure to the people of Sabah," he said.
The final report on the incident, which happened 47 years ago, has been declassified and will be announced next week.
Anwar who announced this, said it was decided in the cabinet meeting after taking into account the views brought up by the Sabah people and the claims from the next of kin.
