Parliament approves formation of APPGM on integrity, governance, anti-corruption

SHAH ALAM - The Parliament today permitted the formation of the All Party Parliamentary Group Malaysia (APPGM) on integrity, governance, and anti-corruption.

This group is chaired by Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh and is made up of members from the government and the opposition coalition.

This establishment of APPGM aims to guarantee systemic and legislative changes that improve Malaysia's integrity, governance, and anti-corruption efforts through the combined efforts of members of parliament, senators, civil society organisations and experts in related fields.

There are eight main focuses of the APPGM which are; independence of the judiciary, amendments to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Act, separation of the Attorney General's power from the role of Public Prosecutor, amendments to the Whistleblower Protection Act 2010, enactment of the Government Procurement Act; enactment of the Political Funding Act, parliamentary reforms, and full implementation of the National Anti-Corruption Plan (NACP).

APPGM is also joined by civil society organisations such as #RasuahBusters-Yayasan Sinar Untuk Malaysia (Secretariat), Transparency International Malaysia, the Institute for Democracy and Economic Affairs (IDEAS), the Centre to Combat Corruption and Cronyism (C4), PATRIOT, UNDI 18, and the Malaysian Bar Council.

Meanwhile, APPGM also working together with experts and professionals such as Tan Sri Dr Syed Hamid Albar, Tan Sri Mohamed Nazir Tun Razak, Datuk Hussamuddin Yaacub, Datuk Dr Anis Yusal, Shah Hakim Zain, Anas Zubedy, Maha Balakrishnan, Christopher Leong, Dr Terence Gomez and Badlishah Sham Baharin.

"APPGM has pledged to work towards transparency, accountability, and the prevention of abuse of power through policy reforms and advocacy programs. They are committed to working together to achieve these goals for the betterment of Malaysia.

"APPGM hopes to receive the support of the Prime Minister and his administration, the Speaker, the Attorney General, members of Parliament, and all political parties in achieving its objectives for a more progressive and better Malaysia," it said in a statement.
