Police arrest suspected serial killer 'Mbah Slamet'

JAKARTA - A suspected serial killer known as 'Mbah Slamet', who is believed to be able to magically multiply money, is suspected of killing 10 of his clients. He was arrested by the police in Central Java last Saturday.

Slamet Tohari, 45, was detained at his home in Desa Balun, Wanayasa, Banjarnegara along with an accomplice who was promoting money multiplying services on social media.

He has allegedly been killing his clients since 2020.

His activities came to light when the Banjarnegara Police conducted an investigation into the disappearance of the latest victim whose family was unable to contact him since March 24.

Banjarnegara Police Chief Hendri Yulianto said the victim informed his son that he was at Mbah Slamet's house via a WhatsApp message.

"The victim from Sukabumi, West Java told his family to contact the police if he didn’t return by March 26," he said.

Acting on the report, police found the body of the victim believed to have been poisoned, in the Desa Balun plantation. Also discovered was the graves of three other victims. The majority of victims were from outside Banjarnegara, including from Palembang. Some graves had two or three bodies buried together.

A total of at least 10 bodies have been recovered by the authorities so far.

All the victims were deceived by Mbah Slamet who was said to be able to multiply money from 40 million rupiah (RM11,822) to five billion rupiah (RM1.5 million).
