No contract doctor strike in HSAH, Malacca Hospital quiet
SUNGAI PETANI - There was no strike or assembly held at the Sultan Abdul Halim Hospital (HSAH) involving contract doctors based on Sinar Harian observations on Monday.
The health operations were seen running as usual around 10am and many patients were seen getting their treatments at the hospital without disruption.
The blood donation drive at the hospital main lobby continued as usual where the blood donation counter was prepared for the purpose of enabling others to provide more towards the blood donation supply in the month of Ramadhan.
Observations found several hospital staff performing their duties without showing signs of there being a lack of personnel to manage patients.
This situation had proven no strike or assembly involving contract doctors was being conducted.
Malacca Hospital similarly showed no signs of a strike or assembly involving the group as claimed to be done on Monday.
Sinar Harian found several parking spaces that had once become a location for contract doctors to assemble two years ago busy with vehicles coming in and out.
Other than the main gate, there were also patients and individuals entering and leaving as usual however, no contract doctors dressed in black had shown up.
A contract doctor refusing to be named said although disappointed they were not given a permanent contract, the responsibility to treat patients must be prioritised.
"No doctors are willing to take a sick leave to strike, even if they were upset there are other ways and the alleged strike was only to hype up the issue," the doctor said.
Sinar Harian's front page on Monday reported that thousands of contract doctors were expected to hold a strike as they were not satisfied by their demands not being met despite the government agreeing to set up a High Level Committee.
Previously a group of contract doctors released a statement that they have discussed to hold a three-day strike starting on Monday for three days and to protest the staff appointment that has been implemented for seven years.
The statement claimed 10,000 of 12,000 health workers were participating in the strike.
It was reported that they were not going to attend their duties for three days on the reason of taking an emergency leave or a sick leave.
