Unity govt in Melaka will help ease the people's acceptance

KUALA LUMPUR - Newly-appointed Melaka Chief Minister Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh's statement that the unity government concept will be implemented in forming the state government, seems to coincide with the current political direction.

Universiti Utara Malaysia political analyst Professor Dr Ahmad Marthada Mohamad said the same composition as the federal government would certainly help ease the people's acceptance and ensure better services.

"The Chief Minister's statement is consistent with what the federal government carries as it was formed based on the concept of unity.

"The state government needs to have the same composition to help ease the acceptance of the people who see the need for the continuity of the federal and state leadership.

"The Chief Minister will get more support with this unity composition and more importantly, it can fulfill important agendas to ensure better services and easier implementation," he said during his appearance at Buletin Awani yesterday.

The appointment of the Pakatan Harapan (PH) assemblyman Marthada said would give a signal of continuous support to ensure the unity government maintained until the next general election.

"In developing a plan, it is necessary to place four assemblymen even if PH does not own a large number of seats, where any of the four could become an exco to secure continuous support to the unity government.

"In the long term, perhaps the government wants to ensure that the unity government will remain in the future too," he said.

Ab Rauf, who had just sworn-in as the 13th Melaka Chief Minister on Friday, confirmed that the state will form a unity government such as implemented at the federal level. - AWANI
