DUNGUN - A lorry driver died while another person suffered serious injuries when two lorries collided between Bukit Besi to Ajl at Kilometre (KM) 372 of the East Coast Expressway 2 (LPT2) here on Thursday.

In the 8.35 am incident, container truck driver Ibrahim Md Zali, 52 died at the scene due to fatal injuries to his head.

Dungun district police chief Superintendent Baharuddin Abdullah said initial investigations found the crash occurred when the container lorry driven by the victim collided with a tanker lorry that suddenly switched lanes.

"This caused the container truck to crash into the divider and flip over while the other truck (tanker) crashed into the ditch," he said in a statement on Thursday.

He said the truck, during the incident, was on its way from Pahang to Kuala Terengganu.

Baharuddin said the tanker driver Amir Firdaus Che Abdullah, 24, broke his ribs and injured his left foot.

"The body was brought to the Dungun Hospital forensic unit for further action, while the injured victim was sent to the same hospital for treatments.

"The case is being investigated under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.
