Flat route in Cambodia doesn't guarantee gold medal - Nur Aisyah

NILAI - The predominantly flat terrain covering the cycling road race route at the Cambodia Sea Games in May will not guarantee an easy passage to gold medals for the national squad national.

National women's squad cyclist Nur Aisyah Mohamad Zubir said there won’t be advantages or disadvantages to riders participating in the road race because riders from all countries will have an equal chance due to the flat terrain, except for a team that has good sprinting abilities.

However, the 26-year-old rider said she and her team mates would work out a strategy that would provide them an opportunity to communicate among each other during the race.

"The route chosen in Cambodia is flat compared with the route picked during the Vietnam SEA Games but that will not be an easy passage to win the gold medal,” she told reporters during the cycling team’s Sea Games training camp at the National Velodrome in Nilai, here today.

The Terengganu-born rider said the national squad would be leaving to Thailand on April 6 to compete in two cycling races as part of the team’s preparation for the Sea Games in Cambodia as well to evaluate the team’s level of fitness and ability to face the challenges in Cambodia.

In the Vietnam Sea Games held in Hanoi last year, Nur Aisyah won two silver medals in the women’s individual and team events.

The four events for road racing events in Cambodia are road criterium (men’s), road criterium (women’s), road individual mass start (men’s) and road individual mass start (women’s).- BERNAMA
