'We are open 25 hours a day, MACC is free to investigate'

SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is free to conduct investigations without restrictions on corruption cases involving law enforcement agencies under the Home Affairs ministry (KDN).

Its minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said under the Unity Government from the first day the Prime Minister held the position, three things were emphasised namely economic restructuring, guarantee of social justice and governance.

"We (KDN) are open 25 hours a day and that is the commitment and openness in our effort to overcome corruption problems, to overcome such problems it should take place from the top to the bottom.

"I respect and recognise the role of enforcement agencies such as the MACC, and this is my stand as long as I lead the ministry ," he said when met by reporters after the Penerapan Nilai Murni ceremony and Iftar at the Selangor Police Contingent Headquarters today.

Also present at the event were Chief of Police Tan Sri Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani and Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan.

Saifuddin said if there were any evidences of wrongdoing from enforcement officers from the ministry, the correct process is to make a report to MACC.

He further reiterated his commitment that his ministry was open 25 hours a day for MACC to carry out its tasks without any disturbance or restrictions at any level

On Monday, Sinar Harian had reported that the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission Deputy Chief Commissioner (Operations) Datuk Seri Ahmad Khusairi Yahaya had said that the influx of undocumented migrants, foreign workers and students in this country is seen as a great opportunity for a few irresponsible law enforcers who do not have integrity.

Regardless of whether these people have work permits, student visas or are without any documentation, these groups are often targeted by law enforcement.

He also had stated that the level of corruption among law enforcement officers as the front line of national security is seen as increasingly chronic and worrisome.
