Charles Santiago new SPAN chairman
SHAH ALAM - Former Klang MP Charles Anthony Santiago has been appointed as the new chairman of the National Water Service Commission (SPAN), effective March 20.
The appointment has generally completed the leadership line of SPAN's new Commission Members for the term 2023 to 2025.
Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the handover of the will for the appointment will take place in the near future.
He hoped that the new SPAN leadership can help achieve the objectives of the Water Sector Transformation (WST 2040) agenda.
"I believe that this line will be able to drive SPAN to continue to be a progressive, proactive and respected organisation in regulating water services in Peninsular Malaysia and the Federal Territory of Labuan based on their experience in their respective fields of expertise," he said in a statement on Monday.
He added that in the face of more severe challenges to water services in the future, SPAN through its employees and commission members need to move synergistically to ensure that water services can be preserved through strategic planning, strict regulators and enforcement of the Water Services Industry Act 2006 (Act 655).
"I would also like to express my deepest gratitude to the previous members of the commission who have carried out their duties with dedication," he said.
