Deputy edu minister asked to resign after failing to answer in Q&A session
KUALA LUMPUR - The opposition members of parliament today demanded Deputy Education Minister Lim Hui Ying resign for not preparing an answer to a question during Parliament’s question-and-answer session.
Pengkalan Chepa member of parliament Datuk Ahmad Marzuk Shaary said this has never happened before where a minister or deputy failed to answer the questions raised.
"This is clearly a waste for the government. This is the first time such a situation has occurred.
"So, I urge this incompetent deputy minister to resign. This kind of situation shouldn't happen because the questions have been given in advance but I don't know if the deputy minister didn't come into the office.
"We (the opposition) have been ministers and deputy ministers before. We know the answer will be prepared ahead of the session," he said during a press conference at Parliament today.
Earlier, the Dewan Rakyat deputy speaker Datuk Ramli Mohd Nor reprimanded Hui Ying after she informed the Dewan that she was not prepapred to answer the question posed by Ahmad Marzuk.
Ramli chided, stating that it should not have happened because the minister or deputy minister needs to be prepared with answers to the questions that will be raised by members of the Dewan Rakyat.
Ahmad Marzuk in a question-and-answer session, asked the Education Ministry about the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT).
Ramli said that he "understands the scenario and predicament" faced by MPs whose questions are not answered in Dewan Rakyat.
"(Lim), this should not have happened. I hope that the government will please take note of this matter.
"This is not a good scenario for the government," he said.
