Ex-soldier hit, kicked, and slapped his mother for refusing to give RM20
TANAH MERAH - A former soldier was arrested for hitting, kicking and stepping on his mother's face after she refused to give him RM20 to buy drugs at Kampung Gual Jedok here on Sunday.
Tanah Merah District Police Chief, Superintendent Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the 65-year-old mother sustained injuries to her head, eyes and other parts of her body in the incident, which occurred at the front gate of their home.
"The mother and her 32-year-old son are said to live alone in the house.
"During the incident, the suspect pulled, slapped, kicked, and stepped on the victim's face and head.
"The incident was recorded by the granddaughter of the neighbour who lives next to the house," he said in a statement on Monday.
Mohd Haki said the suspect had acted out aggressively after his mother refused to give him money.
It is also noted that the suspect is a Persons with Disabilities (OKU) card holder and has often times gone berserk asking for money from the victim, he added.
Mohd Haki said that the man in question is a former soldier who was fired in 2013 and is the fourth of five siblings.
"The victim was taken to Tanah Merah Hospital and sought outpatient treatment.
"Meanwhile, the suspect has been remanded for four days to assist the police's investigation into the case.
"The urine test results also showed that the man was positive for methamphetamine and had two previous criminal records related to drugs," he said.
He said the suspect was detained under Section 323 of the Penal Code and Section 18A of the Domestic Violence Act 2017.
