Monopoly issue: Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry identifies several companies - Salahuddin

KUALA LUMPUR - The Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry has identified several companies under it involved in monopoly issues and is prepared to welcome industry players to open up competition.
Its minister Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub said the matter was decided in the previous Cabinet meeting.
He said he was prepared to call upon key industry players or those interested to become suppliers.
“This was due to the current government policy pushing us to open markets for those interested.
“Through the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) we will ensure the matter is well examined,” he said in a meeting after the Hari Raya Sabella Rahmah Sales Launching Ceremony, here, on Saturday.
Sinar on Saturday reported Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stating the government was reviewing all monopolies that existed in the country at the time as a measure to prepare better and fair services for the people at affordable cost.
He said all ministries were ordered to review its implementation to ensure a fair assessment of the issue.
Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry enforcement division chief Datuk Azman Adam explained the monopoly issue will be carefully tackled.
“The industry relating to eggs and chicken has many players (companies). Regarding the Prime Minister’s statement yesterday we will observe these businesses and examine it in depth,” he said.
