MACC detains six over false payment claims of RM2.5 million for school maintenance
SHAH ALAM - The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has detained six people alleged of submitting false payment claims for the maintenance and repairs of school facilities around Selangor.
According to sources, the six, all men aged 40 to 57, were detained in three separate operations yesterday and had their statements recorded at the Selangor MACC offices.
"A 52-year-old man who was the owner of a company was arrested because he allegedly filed false claims over RM760,000 for maintenance work at a school in Batu Arang in 2020 while the completed job did not follow the specified instructions," the source said.
Adding further, the second arrest was made on a 41-year-old suspect who was a contractor.
He was arrested at 9.30pm for allegedly filing false claims in the same year totaling up to RM865,000, and the completed work did not follow specifications.
"Four other suspects were arrested in a separate operation for filing false claims over RM870,000 involving maintenance work for a school in Semenyih, Selangor, in 2020; however, the work was not fully completed," the source said.
The source also said the 57-year-old company owner, was released on bail due to health factors.
Magistrate Nur Syuhada Abdullah has issued a five-day remand order against the six individuals until March 27 after the MACC made an application at the Magistrates’ Court in Shah Alam this morning, the source said.
Selangor MACC director Datuk Alias Salim, when contacted, confirmed the arrest and said the case was investigated following Section 18 of the MACC Act 2009.
