Official protest, evidence submitted over Umno Puchong elections debacle
SINAR DAILY REPORTERKUALA LUMPUR - Disgruntled Umno Puchong candidates today filed an official protest with the Umno Elections Committee, urging the party to hold a re-elections for the division citing allegations of sabotage and foul play.
Umno Kumpung Sri Puchong branch chief Azmi Ja'afar handed submitted the official protest to Umno Elections Committee executive secretary Datuk Mustapha Yaakob at the Umno headquarters in the World Trade Centre here.
Azmi said the protest document included evidence of breaches in regulations pertaining to restrictions on mobile phones into the vote counting room.
"According to the regulations enforced by the Umno Party Elections Committee, it is clear that mobile phones are not allowed in rooms designated for the vote counting process. Surprisingly, there was a blackout and then there were delegates who not only brought mobile phones into the vote counting room, but were seen taking pictures of the ballots," said Azmi.
"Strangely, it was during the vote counting for the division chief's post that a blackout happened."
Several candidates contesting the Umno Puchong divisional elections on Saturday, held a press conference yesterday, in which they revealed multiple allegations of foul play and urged the elections committee to declare the elections results null and void in order for a re-elections to be held.
"Prior to this we have made a police report," said Azmi.
"These are foul tactics which certain quarters have used before, but this time we hope action is taken so that they don't get away with it," he added.
The current result of the Umno Puchong Division sees Datuk Dr Mohamad Satim Diman winning the division chief's post with 152 votes, followed by Azmir Yuzaimi Mohd Yunos (110) and Kamsani Kamaruddin (62).
