We won't control but monitor gig workers, says Loke
SHAH ALAM - Transport Minister Anthony Loke claims there is no intention of imposing regulations on gig workers.
He said this in response to a question about whether the government would try to monitor the e-hailing and p-hailing services with the Goods Vehicle Driving Licence (GDL) and Puspakom inspections.
Loke said they understand the dynamic situation of gig workers which requires flexibility in their job.
"Gig economy workers are more on a contractual relationship basis, so we don’t intend to control but what we try to do is to monitor.
"We understand that gig workers want flexibility. We will try to reach a win-win situation," he said during a question-and-answer session with the audience during Sinar’s Townhall Rakyat today.
The townhall session, hosted by actor Azhar Sulaiman was an interactive platform for the people to meet face-to-face and ask various issues to the invited guests and leaders.
The program was also attended by the Road Transport Department (JPJ) Director General Datuk Zailani Hashim; Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Zarif Hashim and Malaysia Airport Holdings Berhad Managing Director Datuk Iskandar Mizal Mahmood.
