KUALA LUMPUR - The inefficiencies in dealing with road congestion and toll management are the reason why stress levels among the people are increasing.

Jelebu MP Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said although toll management had long since been handed to concessionaires, the same problem still occured.

"Stress levels among road users are increasing exclusively due to traffic congestion and it doesn't only occur in Kuala Lumpur.

"Among the factors is the toll. I want to ask the deputy minister, how long have we given the concessions for tolls? Surely the payment collection shouldn't be the same?

"We're still using the same barriers constantly being raised up and down. Why not use sensors? In a developed country they use sensors," he said while debating the Budget 2023 at the committee level for the Works Ministry.

Jalaluddin added Malaysia's toll collection system was still inefficient by using different lanes for RFID, Touch 'n Go and Smart Tag users.

"There are more Smart Tag lanes than RFID lanes. We want to purchase Smart Tags, but they are no longer on the market. Those still available are old and unusable.

"I want to ask, how long have we given the concessions without any changes? That is causing mental disorder among Malaysians. These are the facts, each lane should be able to use all systems and if an accident occurs sue them," he explained.
