Witness testifies to Siti Nuramira violating the '3R' rule in comedy routine

SHAH ALAM - The controversial stand-up comedy routine performed by Siti Nuramira Abdullah has been foundi in violation of race, religion and royalty (3R) at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.

On June 4 last year, Nuramira, 27, allegedly acted indecently during a performance at a comedy club.

According to Malaysia Kini report the first prosecution witness Muhammad Ashraf Kamal Musthaffa in the witness stand provided oral evidence in the first day of trial.

In the report it is said that Ashraf had briefed Nuramira and V Alexander Navin (who the witness claimed was introduced as Nuramira's husband) to not touch on sensitive issues.

During the the examination-in-chief, Deputy Public Prosecutor Abdul Malik Ayob the witness testified that there is an unwritten rule towards performers not touching the 3R topics.

Ashraf mentioned the topic of religion was touched upon during the performance.

When asked whether Ashraf approved of the action, he responded stating he did not and he did what he could when he went on stage to address the audience on what happened mentioning to the couple that the club was a place of respect and they were briefed of it before performing.

Nuramira was charged under Section 298A of the Penal Code for claiming she memorized 15 chapters of the Quran before acting indecently and if found guilty she could be sentenced for up to five years in prison.

Meanwhile Alexander, 29 was charged in the Petaling Jaya Sessions Court on July 13 last year on two counts of improper use of network facilities by making and initiating the transmission of offensive videos on Instagram and YouTube.

He was placed on an RM20,000 bail with one surety on both charges.

The comedy club where the duo had committed this act had its license revoked by the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) effective July 30.
