IPOH - Almost all Perak Umno division chiefs have retained their posts in the party elections.

In all, 12 incumbents in 24 divisions contested retained their posts.

Those who remained were Ayer Kuning Assemblyman Ishsam Shahrudin in Tapah, Lintang Assemblyman Datuk Mohd Zolkafly Harun (Sungai Siput), Datuk Sham Mat Sahat (Bagan Serai), Datuk Hang Tuah Din (Gopeng) and Datuk Dr Azhar Ahmad (Beruas).

Only the Parit Buntar Umno division chief failed to defend his post when Datuk Abu Bakar Mat Ali lost to Mohd Jamil Jahaya.

Seven division chiefs had won without contesting involving Bagan Datuk held by Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, Lenggong led by Umno state chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad, Lumut (Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir), Ipoh Barat (Datuk Shamsuddin Abdul Ghaffar), Ipoh Timur (Datuk Azian Osman), Padang Rengas (Datuk Seri Mohamed Nazri Abdul Aziz) and Batu Gajah (Datuk Mohd Yusoff Kassim).

The four divisions gaining a new chief involved Pasir Salak won by Khairul Azwan Harun, Bukit Gantang (Mohammad Sollehin Mohamad Tajie), Parit Buntar (Mohd Jamil) and Larut (Datuk Mohamad Daud Mohd Yusoff).

The election had two wanita candidates running for the Umno division chief posts failing to stand out namely the former special tasks deputy minister Datuk Mastura Mohd Yazid (Kuala Kangsar) and former Bagan Serai Umno Wanita division chief Zarina Abdol Majid (Bagan Serai).

Two former Umno youth division chiefs had different outcomes when Mohammad Sollehin who once led the Bukit Gantang Umno youth division won for the Umno division chief post while former Tambun Umno youth division chief Faridzul Azlan Abd Shani was unsuccessful in winning the two-corner clash for the Tambun Umno division chief post.
