PONTIAN - Umno secretary general Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan has won the Pontian Umno division chief post in the party election on Saturday.

The deputy finance minister obtained 388 votes compared to his opponent Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad who held the Umno Pontian division chief post and had only garnered 291 votes.

A total of 690 delegates from 117 branches were involved in the selection process this time, which was held at the Sultan Ibrahim Diamond Jubilee Hall, Pontian.

The Pontian MP's victory ended Hasni's reign, who had held the position for 22 years.

The clash between Ahmad and Hasni previously stole the spotlight because both have extensive political experience in Umno.

Hasni who is also a Simpang Renggam MP and Benut state legislative assemblyman, was previously the Umno Johor chairman and Johor Menteri Besar.
