Two injured in the uproar during Lahad Datu Umno meeting
LAHAD DATU - Lahad Datu Umno representatives' meeting held at Dewan Sri Perdana had gone chaotic earlier after a commotion broke out.
Two suspects involved in the commotion were identified by police, meanwhile, two others were injured in the 2.45pm incident.
Lahad Datu district police chief Assistant Commissioner Dr Rohan Shah Ahmad who confirmed the incident, said the commotion was believed to have started due to provocation.
"The uproar started due to provocation, which led to the fight but the police managed to stop it and control the situation.
"From the incident, two individuals who are Sabah Umno Liaison Committee executive secretary and Lahad Datu Umno Youth Committee were injured," he said in a statement.
Rohan Shah said an investigation is carried out under Section 15(3) of the Peaceful Assembly Act 2012 for violations, and if convicted, they can be fined not more than RM10,000 and face one year of imprisonment or a penalty of RM2,000 or both under Section 323 of the Penal Code.
"The suspects identified are two men, ages 33 and 38, who are also Umno members.
"The investigation papers will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor for further instructions," he said.
Rohan Shah also advised the public to stop spreading photos and footage of the incident as the case is still under investigation.
In the one minute and 19 seconds video, several individuals were seen acting violently as they were kicking, pushing, and punching one another before Malaysian Volunteer Corps Department (Rela) member intervened.
