Winning Umno election is not a ticket to become state election candidate
JELEBU - Winning the Umno divisional elections is not a ticket to becoming a candidate for the state election.
The party's Jelebu division chief Datuk Seri Jalaluddin Alias said the Umno election was not intended for the purpose of finding candidates but rather to ensure the leaders appointed could serve the party and the people.
"It is not appropriate for those who won to want to be candidates for the upcoming state polls and Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has previously stated that those winning are not necessarily going to be candidates.
"Commitment towards Umno must be prioritised over wanting to become a state election candidate," he told reporters when met at the Jelebu Umno Complex here on Saturday.
Jalaluddin who is also the Jelebu member of parliament (MP) remained as the division chief after winning unopposed.
Both the division deputy chief and division vice president were held by Sungai Lui Assemblyman Mohd Razi Mohd Ali and Pertang Assemblyman Noor Azmi Yusof will compete in a three- and two-cornered race, respectively.
Jalaluddin said he has no issue cooperating with any candidate who wins the election.
He explained that agreement for the sake of Umno's struggle was more important.
