TANAH MERAH - Kelantan Islamic Affairs and Religious Department (Jaheaik) issued warning notices to seven men under the aurat (indecent exposure) offences by wearing shorts which were above the knee length on Friday.

The offenders, who were in their teens and 20s, were reprimanded during Ops Bersepadu which was held jointly with the Tanah Merah District Council (MDTM), Tanah Merah District Health Office (PKD) and the National Anti-Drug Agency (AADK).

MDTM sources stated the operations were done following public complaints received regarding a hookah business conducted at an eatery near Gertak Chaber.

"We have confiscated six hookah units in the operation and a warning notice was given under the Licensing, Trade, Business and Industry (MDTM) Bylaws 2009.

"The PKD at the same time released 11 compounds under the Control of Tobacco Products Regulations (PPKHT) 2004 valued at RM1,900.

"Five compounds under the Food Hygiene Regulations 2009 were released valuing at RM1,500 bringing the overall total to RM3,400," the source said when contacted by Sinar on Wednesday.

The source stated the MDTM Enforcement Division will always monitor and operate periodically to curb hookah activities here.

The source also stated MDTM welcomed the public to channel information regarding the activities that violate the rules and regulations.
