Two men arrested for armed robbery and escaping with RM10,000
ISKANDAR PUTERI - Two men have been arrested over suspicion of committing armed robbery and fleeing with RM10,000 in cash in front of the Teega Tower, on Monday.
Iskandar Puteri district police chief Assistant Commissioner Rahmat Ariffin said the suspects who were detained for investigation in the incident were in their 40s.
"The arrest was made last Monday which is on the same day of the incident when the police were alerted about a viral video (of the incident), yesterday (Wednesday).
"The first suspect was arrested at 10.15am in Horizon Hill while the second suspect was arrested at 9pm, the same day in Gelang Patah after receiving a tip-off.
"Based on the investigation, the suspects admitted to being involved in the incident that occured at 9.45am where they hit the victim's car and injured the victim using a parang," he said in a statement today.
Rahmat said the police had also seized RM10,000 cash the supsects allegedly stole from an online trader as well as weapons and vehicles.
"The two suspects were remanded for four days until Saturday to assist in the investigation. We believe that there are still three other suspects who are still at large.
"Investigations are still ongoing to track down the suspects' partners. The case is investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code (for gang robbery)," he said.
Rahmat urged those who witnessed the incident to come forward to Iskandar Puteri IPD to assist in the investigation.
Previously, a two minutes and 17-second video went viral showing three individuals armed with parang attacking the victim in a four-wheel drive vehicle.
The victim tried to escape but two cars suspected to be the suspect's friend had blocked the victim's car.
One of the suspects was seen escaping with a package containing cash amounting to RM10,000 from the back seat of the victim's car.
