Larkin assemblyman Hairi wins Umno youth deputy chief seat

SHAH ALAM - Johor's state assemblyman Hairi Mad Shah is the new Umno Youth deputy chief.

The Larkin assemblyman had a close win with 87 votes defeating his challenger, Ikmal Hazlan Ikmal Hisham with 84 votes.

Hairi is also Johor's Youth, Sports, Entrepreneurship Development, Cooperatives and Johor Human Resources exco

The decision was announced by the Umno Election Committee chairman Tan Sri Shahrir Samad in a press conference at the party's headquarters in Menara Dato' Onn, Kuala Lumpur.

"Hairi's victory for the position of Youth deputy chief was only determined at 12noon yesterday after all the results from the division were received," Shahrir said.

He said that for the position of youth leader, Malacca State Health and Anti-Drug Exco Dr Mohd Akmal Salleh won with 122 votes defeating Paya Besar MP Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah.

Shahrir added that his party had received 10 objections from all Umno divisions involving six from the Women's wing and four from the Youth.

The objections were from Kuala Kedah, Kulim Bandar Baru, Pekan, Pasir Salak, Sungai Besar and Rompin women division.

He further said tomorrow is the last day for any objections to be submitted.

On Sunday, Shahrir said that only the results for the position of Umno Youth deputy chief are yet to be finalised.
