HULU SELANGOR - Hafidz Roshdi has pleaded not guilty at the Kuala Kubu Baru magistrate's court, here, to injuring his wife.

The 29-year old actor made the plea after the charge was read to him before Sessions Court judge Siti Fatimah Talib who sat as the magistrate, today.

He was charged with intentionally causing hurt by punching his wife Nurul Shuhada Mat Shukri, 29, three times, causing the victim to suffer bruises.

The offence was allegedly committed near the exit of the Sungai Buaya toll plaza at about 3.32am on March 2.

The charge framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code and read with Section 326 of the same act carries a jail term of up to a year or a RM2,000 fine or both, if convicted.

Deputy public prosecutors Nurul QIstini Qamarul Abrar and Elyza Amira Habeeb Rahman asked for the accused to be given bail after he was referred to Hospital Bahagia in Tanjung Rambutan, Perak.

This, the prosecution team said was because based on record, the accused had previously received psychiatric treatments.

Hafidz's lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader pleaded for his client to be released on bail without being referred to a psychiatric hospital as the accused was suffering from depression and bipolar syndrome which were not major mental health issues.

His case will be up for mention on June 9 for submissions of his medical report.
