MELAKA - Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi might be seen as omnipotent within Umno now, but that's just temporary, say experts.

Political expert Dr Oh Ei Sun said this notion of being powerful in Umno might change after the upcoming state elections.

"If Perikatan Nasional (PN) wins big, many Malay members of parliament from the current government, including those from Umno, are likely to switch support to PN side.

"Thereby bringing about the downfall of the government and, by extension, Zahid’s leadership," he told Sinar Daily.

Meanwhile, Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)'s political expert Dr Abdul Aziz Azizan said that there was no guarantee for Umno to be a stable party.

This is because other candidates who contest for different posts may not favour Zahid, he added.

"Zahid may have eliminated all of his potential threats, but there must be a few individuals still in the party whose leaders were sacked before. They may avenge Zahid in the elections.

"Those who have been eliminated by Zahid won't let this election go easy, most probably they will have some plan," he said.
