Muhyiddin should not be too defensive, says PKR man

BATU KAWAN - Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin should not be too defensive after he was slappped with six charges of power abuse for bribes amounting to RM232.5 million and money laundering amounting to RM195 million, between 2020 to 2022.

Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) vice president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said the investigation conducted by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) should be respected.

"I remember how the investigation against Umno was done, and Muhyiddin said it was just an investigation process by MACC and all parties should respect it.

"And right now, MACC is carrying out the same process. And as mentioned by the prime minister, there is no government intervention in the investigation. I believe that there are still many more ongoing court cases involving members of Parliament from both sides.

"Just let the investigation proceed, and there is no need to be so defensive. You can even use the court case to clear your name," he said when met after the Alam Kita Carnival 2023 Opening Ceremony at Batu Kawan Stadium today.

On Friday, Muhyiddin questioned how the Attorney-General's Chambers (AGC) could have made an early decision to prosecute him when he has yet to give any statement to MACC.

The former prime minister claimed that the decision to prosecute him was made by the government, even though the investigation is still ongoing.

Following that, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Muhyiddin who is also Bersatu president, needed to focus on the case and answer all the charges made against him in court.

Anwar who is also Pakatan Harapan (PH) chairman repeated his statement that he did not interfere in the investigation.
