KUALA LUMPUR - Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has decided to remain as the Bersatu and Perikatan Nasional (PN) chief.

He said the stance was made after the Supreme Council’s decision to retain his presidential post.

“In a Bersatu meeting yesterday (Saturday), I offered to step down as I was facing charges in court. It coincides with the party’s motto which is unity, dignity and trust.

“I take full responsibility on the charges I’m facing. But they rejected it and the party (Bersatu) approved the motion to reject my resignation. With this, I have decided to continue my duties as president.

“I am moved by the overwhelming support for me to continue leading Bersatu and PN,” he said at the president’s policy speech in conjunction with the Bersatu General Assembly at PGRM Tower, here, on Sunday.

Muhyiddin faces six charges of abuse of power for bribes amounting to RM232.5 million and illegal money laundering of RM195 million between 2020 to 2022.

He wascharged on Monday underSection 4(1)(b) of the 2001 Anti-Money Laundering and Anti-Terrorism Financing Act (AMLATFPUAA).
