Dr Akmal elected as Umno Youth chief, Asyraf Wajdi confirms

SHAH ALAM: Merlimau assemblyman Dr Muhamad Akmal Saleh has been elected as the new Umno Youth chief.

Based on the unofficial results, he obtained votes from 102 of 189 divisions, defeating three other candidates for the post in the party election.

This was confirmed by Datuk Dr Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki who congratulated Dr Akmal for winning the wing's chief post.

Meanwhile, Dr Akmal's other competitors namely Paya Besar Umno Youth chief Datuk Mohd Shahar Abdullah received 17 votes while Umno Supreme Council (MKT) member Datuk Armand Azha Abu Hanifah got six votes.

"Alhamdulillah, based on the unofficial result, Dr Akmal Saleh has won the position of Malaysian Umno Youth chief for the 2023/2026 session.

"The votes gathered so far are 102 divisions; exceeding the 96 votes needed for a simple majority out of the 191 divisions. Congratulations," he said in his Facebook post today.

The 2023–2026 session of the Umno election began today (Saturday), with voting going on simultaneously nationwide.

For the Umno Youth wing, seven candidates competed for the chief post, deputy chief post (12), Umno Wanita chief (4), Umno Wanita deputy chief (4) and 113 for the exco posts.
