Socso targets 500,000 housewives contributing under SKSSR by end of year

MELAKA - The Social Security Organisation (Socso) aims to have about 500,000 housewives contributing under the Housewives’ Social Security Scheme (SKSSR) by the end of this year.

Socso Synergy Division head Rahmat Ismail said as many as 174,000 housewives have contributed under the SKSSR, to provide domestic disaster and disability protection coverage to the group, since the scheme was launched on Dec 1 last year, until March 2.

He said of that number, 166,666 contributors were housewives registered under e-Kasih, in addition to those who contributed with the Employees Provident Fund (EPF) i-Suri, and their contributions were sponsored by the government for one year, through a Budget 2022 allocation.

"Contributors under this scheme who are housewives, not necessarily full-time housewives but those who work either in the private or government sector, can contribute as long as they are Malaysian citizens, female, aged 55 and below.

"Under the SKSSR, housewives are covered 24 hours a day, and are eligible for medical benefits, and temporary and permanent disability benefits, in addition to a pension and permanent service allowance, and contributors can undergo physiotherapy at Socso rehabilitation centres such as in Melaka,” he told reporters here today.

He said this to reporters after the Myfuturejobs Melaka Careertrans and SKSSR 2023 opening ceremony, officiated by Melaka Chief Minister, Datuk Seri Sulaiman Md Ali. It was also attended by Socso chief executive, Datuk Seri Dr Mohammed Azman Aziz Mohammed.

Rahmat said the contribution can be made by housewives themselves, or husbands, or financed by their employers with a contribution value of RM120 for a period of 12 months, which is paid in advance.

"Malaysia is the first country in Southeast Asia to offer this scheme for housewives, through Socso, while in the world, we are the fourth country.

He added that Socso is also actively promoting SKSSR through cooperation with various parties, such as employers, at Orang Asli settlement areas and non-governmental organisations, to raise awareness and provide information regarding the scheme.

Meanwhile, the two-day Melaka Myfuturejobs Careertrans Career Carnival, starting today, offers more than 6,500 job opportunities to those seeking employment, involving 36 employers from various sectors. - BERNAMA
