BUKIT MERTAJAM - The Seberang Perai Tengah Welfare Department (JKM) is looking for the biological parents of Afifah Hilya Nafisah.

Its Social Welfare Assistant Officer Noor Liza Azezool said the two-years and seven-month-old toddler was abandoned by her Indonesian parents, who did not possess any identification two years ago.

The little girl has ever since been cared for by Norseri Ahmad Kasa and his wife Nor Azizah Daud.

Noor Liza said the child was abandoned by her mother when she was one year and 10 months old.

"The mother said she wanted to return to Indonesia temporarily to settle issues with her work permit.

"But they have yet to return or seek to take back their child," she told Sinar Harian today.

Noor Liza said the application for exemption from Section 15(3) of the Child Act 2001 has been approved to share the child's photo for media broadcasts.

She said relatives or the public who know about the biological parents' whereabouts can contact the Seberang Perai Tengah Child Protection Office, Penang, at 04-5382584 (Aminul Husaini).
