Not even a single sen went into my pockets, says Muhyiddin
KUALA LUMPUR - Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin says he did not steal even a sen of the people's money.
The Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman further said he was accused of abusing the prime minister's authority to select bumiputera contractors for the Jana Wibawa project.
The Pagoh MP denied the charges made because he did not have the authority to approve any of the projects.
"All the projects were approved by Finance Ministry following the valid procurement rules and procedures.
"I was also accused of abusing the power to approve tax exemption appeal for Tan Sri Syed Mokhtar Albukhary’s Yayasan Albukhary charity.
"I have denied this claim. The tax exemption approval was also made Finance Ministry and I do not own the authority to approve it.
"These are the two allegations that has resulted in seven charges made againsts me," he said in a press conference at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court today.
Muhyiddin was charged under Section 23 of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 for abuse of power.
He stressed that he was not charged for accepting bribes.
He said this is because after an investigation was conducted, it was found that not a single sen of the people's money went into his pocket while he was the prime minister.
"It is completely different to the slander that I had allegedly embezzled RM600 billion of the economic stimulus package created during the pandemic.
"It is proven now that the accusations are malicious slander made solely to tarnish my image, my family and the party," Muhyididn said.
