'I'm safe today' Zahid on unconfirmed viral RoS letter
KUALA LUMPUR - A viral letter on social media claiming to be from the Registrar of Societies (RoS) did not achieve any reactions from Umno President Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.
“I’m safe today,” Zahid said during a press conference after chairing the rural and regional development meeting with Sarawak state government in Kuching, today.
Also present were Infrastructure and Ports Development Minister Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas, Sarawak deputy premier Datuk Seri Sim Kui Hian, the state Public Health, Housing and Local Government Minister.
The letter claimed to be from RoS on Umno annual general meeting (AGM) additional motion for party's top two positions not to be contested.
This comes after Home minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution confirmed that Umno was granted an exemption under the Societies Act 1966 for the resolution barring contests for its top two posts in this month's party elections.
The viral letter was shared in Facebook by Planetmalaya.
“This is a RoS letter in which the decision of the additional motion for the President’s Policy Address at the 2022 Umno AGM for the position of president and deputy president not to be contested in the upcoming party election (shows it) is invalid,” Planetmalaya claimed. - Awani
