Syamsul refuses to divorce Puteri Sarah
KUALA LUMPUR - Director of “Mat Kilau” Syamsul Yusof has refused to divorce his wife Puteri Sarah Liyana Megat Kamaruddin.
He stated his refusal to let go of his first wife through his lawyer during the mention of Puteri Sarah’s divorce application at the Syariah Lower Court, here, before Syarie judge Akmalludin Ilyas today.
In the proceedings, Syamsul or his real name Mohd Shamsul Md Yusof, 39, was represented by syarie lawyer Rushdan Sujak while Puteri Sarah was represented by lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader.
The court then ordered both parties to appoint a conciliatory committee (JKP) in their divorce case.
"As there are no exceptional circumstances found, the court allows the proceedings to continue without having to go through JKP process.
"I hope both parties will cooperate with the conciliatory committee so that the court can obtain a complete report before a decision can be made," he said.
In a divorce process, JKP appoints family members who are close to the couple to give advice and find solutions to the domestic problems.
Meanwhile, hakam is a method based on Islamic law where an individual is given authority to decide whether a marriage dispute can be resolved through reconciliation or divorce.
Earlier, during the proceedings, Roshdan counsel said his client has disagreed with Puteri Sarah's divorce application.
Therefore, Roshdan suggested establishing JKP before the hakam process can be undertaken, because the hakam will be chaired by an official from the Federal Territory Islamic Religious Department and not representatives of both parties.
However, Akberdin objected to the proposal because there was no way to save the marriage. He said this is because Puteri Sarah and Syamsul had been living apart for a long time and did not communicate. "It will only be a waste of time that brings no benefit, so we request to continue with the proceeding by appointing a hakam," he said.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah were married on March 8, 2014, and had two children: Syaikhul Islam, 6, and Sumayyah, 4.
Syamsul and Puteri Sarah's marriage crisis were among the hot topics of the country since four years ago, but Datuk Yusof Haslam's son was silent about it.
On Jan 6, Syamsul broke his silence and revealed his relationship with Ira Kazar after marrying her in Thailand.
Puteri Sarah, who acted in the famous 'Lu Pikirlah Sendiri de Movie' then filed for divorce from her husband Syamsul on Jan 16 through the legal firm of Akberdin & Co.
