Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan injured while shooting action scene

SHAH ALAM - Amitabh Bachchan, one of India's most popular actors, has revealed that he was injured on the set, causing "painful" movement and breathing.

English news portal CNN had earlier reported that Bachchan, 80, tore a muscle and cartilage in his ribs while shooting an action scene for his upcoming film "Project K" in Hyderabad, India.

On his official blog on Sunday, the veteran actor stated that he is resting at home in Bombay and that he will be out of commission for several weeks.

"It shall be difficult, or, let me say... I shall be unable to meet the well wishers at Jalsa Gate this evening," Bachchan wrote, referring to his weekly ritual of meeting fans outside his home in the city’s Juhu suburb.

"So do not come... and do inform those who intend to come as much as you can."

Bachchan is a world famous superstar, having appeared in over 200 films over the course of a career covering more than five decades.

Many of his fans went on a hunger strike after he sustained a life-threatening injury on set in 1982, and one even walked 482 kilometres (300 miles) backwards to pray for his recovery.

Bachchan is married to actress and politician Jaya Bachchan and their son is Abhishek Bachchan is married to actress and former Miss World Aishwarya Rai.
