PN never stopped negotiations and discussions on seat allocations

GEORGETOWN - Perikatan Nasional (PN) has never stopped discussing seat allocations for the upcoming state elections.

PN deputy chairman Datuk Dr Dominic Lau Hoe Chai said discussions on seat allocations had already been ongoing since before the 15th general election (GE15).

"Preparations for the state elections have been underway for a while now. At the time, we didn’t know that the six states would not hold state elections. However, discussions and negotiations are continued even after the dissolution of the state assemblies.

"There will be minor changes at the last moment, and that is normal. What we are sure of is that we have never stopped discussing and negotiating in deciding the candidates for all six states," he said in a press conference at the Penang Gerakan headquarters, here, on Saturday.

The Gerakan president said all negotiations and discussions regarding candidates were made and given to the PN Supreme Council and then to PN’s Presidential Council.

"We will see which candidates are best suited to contest in each state assembly. For example, in Penang, we would focus on the parliamentary areas that we won, which are Kepala Batas, Permatang Pauh, and Tasek Gelugor.

"We will place candidates that can win in these areas. Changes will be made periodically until the dissolution (of state assemblies," he said.

The six states unanimously decided to dissolve their state assemblies in June to pave the way for the state elections.

The states holding state elections this year were Kedah, Kelantan, Terengganu, Penang, Selangor, and Negeri Sembilan.

The unanimous decision was achieved in a meeting among the Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers in February.
