Illegal settlement was built on privately owned land

SEREMBAN - The illegal settlement of undocumented migrants raided by Negeri Sembilan Immigration Department (JIM) here yesterday was built on a privately owned land.

Seremban District officer Mohd Nizam Tajul Arus said investigation found that the land belonged to a developer company.

"The land does not belong to the government but it is a privately owned land.

"However, we are not sure whether the company is aware about the illegal settlement and further investigation is being conducted ," he told Sinar today.

He said any land owner was responsible to ensure their land was not intruded into and turned into an illegal settlement by any party.

He also expressed confidence that the authorities were taking the appropriate measures to eradicate illegal settlements not only in Seremban but also throughout the state.

Sinar previously reported on a illegal settlement located in a hilly area equipped with two football fields which had existed for the past few years.

A total of 47 illegal immigrants aged between one to 61 years old were examined and 32 of them were detained in the operation assisted by KLIA Immigration Enforcement Department, the National Registration Department and Negeri Sembilan Islamic Religious Affairs Department.

They detainees consisted of 16 men, 15 women and a girl.
