Flood victims in Johor continue to rise
ZULHISHAM ISAHAKJOHOR BAHRU - Flood victims in Johor continue to increase, with 37,528 people from 10,792 families currently placed in 240 temporary evacuation centres (PPS) as of noon on Saturday.
State Secretary Tan Sri Dr Azmi Rohani said the total number of victims increased from 37,322 people to 10,793 families placed in 238 centres as at 8am.
Azmi who is also the chairman of the state disaster management committee (JPBN) said nine districts were affected.
"Segamat, Batu Pahat, Kluang, Muar, Kota Tinggi, Tangkak, Mersing, Johor Bahru, and Pontian were involved in the floods.
"Segamat continues to be the worst district affected, with 12,900 victims from 3,785 families in 77 PPS, followed by Batu Pahat (7,830 victims from 2,294 families in 45 PPS) and Kluang (5,285 victims from 1,533 families in 39 PPS)," he said in a statement on Saturday.
He said 18 rivers recorded dangerous level readings in six states, with Batu Pahat involving five rivers, Segamat (six), Batu Pahat (five), Muar (three) Kluang (three) and Tangkak (one).
Some 75 roads were affected by floods, with Kota Tinggi involving 27 roads, Segamat (23), Kluang (11), Mersing (five), Batu Pahat (six), Tangkak (two) and Johor Bahru (one).
