Three robbers who blew up ATMs nabbed by police
SHAH ALAM - Police hunted down and arrested three masked criminals who ran away with hundred thousands of ringgit after blowing up an automated teller machine (ATM) in three separate raids.
Selangor police chief Hussein Omar Khan said all the suspects including two mechanics aged 30 to 43 were arrested around Kuang and Meru.
During the raid, Hussein said that the suspects were found washing the ink on the money using bleach.
This is because, the money had been sprayed with ink from the machine when the ATM was blown up by the suspects.
"The investigations found that three of them had been involved in two other ATM machine explosion cases from the same bank in December 2020 and February 2022 in Meru.
"The suspects choose ATMs from the same banks because the machines operate using an old system which can be blown up with gas which is commonly used for welding," he said in a press conference at Selangor Contigent Police Headquaters.
Based on the investigation, it was also found that the mastermind of this group was a 43-year-old mechanic.
Hussein further said that cash amounting to RM202,400, cable rolls and signal jammers were also seized in the three raids.
"All three suspects are also drug addicts and a check found that they had past records relating to crime and drugs," he reasoned.
Hussien said police was completing probes before referring the case to the Deputy Public Prosecutor.
Last week, two ATMs at a bank in Setia Alam were blown up, leading to the theft of an estimated RM409,000.
Three suspects, who alighted from a white Mitsubishi ASX sprayed a black paint on closed circuit camera (CCTV) resulting blurry footage.
