SHAH ALAM - Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari's case on alleged abuse of power for awarding a firm a river-widening project's will be investigated under Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC). Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said it is appropriate for MACC to probe the matter. "We refer to the MACC as it involves elements of corruption. "It is more appropriate for MACC to probe the case," he told reporters at Selangor Contigent Police Headquaters. Yesterday, Selangor Bersatu lodged a police report against Amirudin and several other individuals including Selangor Infrastructure and Public Utilities, Modernisation of Agriculture and Agro-based Industry executive council chairman Izham Hashim over allegations of abuse of power. Its Puchong division chief Mohd Shukor Mustaffa said the report was to urge the police to probe criminal offences of abuse of power, governance and conflict of interest. Shukor said the Selangor Maritime Gateway project was dealt through a direct negotiation, which was later denied by Amirudin’s press secretary Jay Jay Denis. Amirudin has denied that he and an executive councillor had abused their power in the awarding the river-widening project and merely represented the interest of the state government as Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd (LLSB) board members. Yesterday, LLSB, an environmental sustainability company, defended Amirudin and Izham against allegations that the duo abused their power after the firm was awarded the project. LLSB is a subsidiary of Menteri Besar Selangor (Incorporated) (MBI), of which Amirudin is also a board member. The 56-kilometre river widening project stretched from Mid Valley Megamall in Kuala Lumpur to Port Klang, which is said to cost RM700 million.
