Deviant teachings: 'Asmaul Husna' founder charged
SEREMBAN - Former lecturer and founder of deviant religious group “Asmaul Husna” was charged at the Syariah High Court, here, today for spreading deviant teachings to Muslims at her house in Kuala Pilah.
Wan Maseri Wan Mohd, 59, pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Ruzita Ramli.
She was charged with spreading deviant teachings to a group of Muslims by saying among others that her actions were a direct order from Allah.
The offence was allegedly committed at a house in Kampung Nuri Balai Panjang, Johol, Kuala Pilah at 9.45am on Feb 27.
The charge framed under Section 52 of the Syariah Criminal Enactment (Negeri Sembilan) 1992 amendment 2019 carries a fine not exceeding RM5,000 or imprisonment not exceeding three years or both, if convicted.
Deputy chief syarie prosecutor Rohaizad Redzuan asked the court to impose a high bail amount to Wan Maseri with one surety.
"The case is widely known and this teaching has been spread through social media.
"The accused has also made an official confession of repentance through the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim),” he said.
Maseri who was unrepresented pleaded for RM4,000 bail.
The court allowed her RM4,500 bail with one surety who is a civil servant and fixed April 4 for mention.
It was reported that a woman with 17 of her followers were arrested in a house in Johol, Kuala Pilah on Monday while she was giving a talk.
Those arrested were women in their 20s to 60s and majority of them were housewives living outside of Negeri Sembilan.
