Jana Wibawa graft case: Adam Radlan hauled to court for third time

This was the third time he was hauled to court for corruption over the same project.
He pleaded not guilty to the charge before judge Azura Alwi.
According to the charge sheet, Adam was accused of soliciting the bribe from one Lian Tan Chuan as a reward for helping a company, Nepturis Sdn Bhd obtain the Klang Utara, Selangor district headquarters project from the Malaysian government.
The offence was allegedly committed at a restaurant in Damansara in January, last year.
The charge framed under Section 16(a)(a) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act, carries up to 20 years' jail and a fine of not less than five times the amount of the bribe or RM10,000, whichever is higher, if convicted.
Deputy public prosecutor Farah Yasmin Salleh had asked the court to maintain the RM300,000 bail with two sureties as the charges the accused faced at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
She said the accused was also charged in Shah Alam on Feb 22 with accepting bribes involving the same project (Jana Wibawa).
"The prosecution will apply for the case to be tried together however, we have yet to receive any instructions on whether the cases will be tried in Shah Alam or here," she said.
Deputy public prosecutor Natrah Fareha Rahmat also prosecuted.
Lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam who represented Adam did not object the matter.
"For the court's information, my client has been given an additional condition to report himself to the MACC office in Putrajaya once a month and his passport has been handed over to the court," he said.
Azura allowed the accused to adopt the RM300,000 bail set by the Shah Alam court with the same conditions.
The case will be up for mention on March 23.
On Feb 21, he was charged at the Sessions Court here with soliciting bribes of 3.5 to seven per cent of the project's value which will be obtained from MIE Infrastructure & Energy Sdn Bhd managing director Mat Jusoh Mamat.
Adam was also charged with receiving bribes of RM500,000 through his personal CIMB Bank Berhad account from the same individual for helping the company obtain a letter for the Sungai Adam to Kampung Banat road construction project in Perlis from the Malaysia government through a direct negotiation amounting to RM47.8 million.
He was charged in Shah Alam the next day with two charges of receiving bribes totaling RM4.1 million involving the Jana Wibawa project.
