Cub Prix: Shahrol Syazras likened even more to dad Yuzy after storming to first CP150 win
SEPANG - Emulating his famous father, Shahrol Syazras Shahrol Yuzy opened his CP150 class season with an emphatic victory in Round One of the Petronas Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at the Sepang Circuit yesterday.
The 20-year old son of Honda Yuzy Estremo team principal and former 250cc World Championship rdier Shahrol Yuzy Ahmad Zaini, registered the victory by storming into the lead from third of the grid after falling behind Petronas Sprinta Yamaha-CKJ pair Md Akid Aziz and defending champion Ahmad Afif Amran in qualifying on Saturday.
Taking the lead by the first corner, the opening lap saw Shahrol Syazras exchange the lead with Ahmad Afif and Md Akid, before the trio were joined by Honda Yuzy Estremo's Idlan Haqimi in mid-race, making it a four-horse race for the finish.
Afif then dropped to 10 after the eighth lap, before Shahrol Syazras managed to surge ahead and sustain a healthy gap ahead of the rest all the way to the finish.
“In the last lap, I noticed that most riders were a little slower. I assumed that they were waiting for the moment to strike. I saw this as an opportunity therefore I took the advantage and increased speed. I am truly grateful for this win,” said Shahrol Syazras.
Ahmad Afif Amran managed to secure second spot on the podium, while Azroy Hakeem Anuar of Honda Yuzy Estremo took the final spot on the podium.
In the CP125 class, Md Syafiq Rosli of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha Maju Motor took the win, ahead of Md Amirul Ariff Musa of the SCK Honda Racing Team, while Md Syamil Amsyar M Iffende of Petronas Sprinta Yamnaha 31 Racing took third spot.
The Wira KBS class saw Amirun Haziq Johan of Petronas Sprinta Yamaha 31 Racing take the first win of the season ahead of teammte Raiyan Khardanee M Sanusi, while Md Farish Iqmal Khayrul Elyas of the Bad Lab Honda KC Racing team took third spot.
