'Don't damage party's name by going after money and position', says Fahmi Fadzil

PETALING JAYA - Pakatan Harapan (PH) communications director Fahmi Fadzil reminds party members not to damage the party's name by going after only money and position.

Fahmi revealed at the Selangor Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) Information Convention that he heard among members who were hoping for incentives for work done.

He said PH’s victory in the 15th general election (GE15) was not due to candidate influences but the result of the machinery’s strength and the support of the public, who trusted the party’s struggles.

"We are not struggling for positions or spoils of war. I heard talk that there are those who are damaging our struggles.

"What is it? Is there an allowance to come to a meeting? There isn’t such a thing, it is not in our DNA, nor is it in our struggle’s history.

"This infuriates me, don’t make it a habit at the party.

"We have to remember, PKR was born in the streets and faced the Federal Reserve Forces (FRU). We are fighting for the fate of the public and not to pocket money (for ourselves) or for projects," he said at the convention held at the Kelana Jaya Tabung Haji Hotel on Sunday.

Halimey Abu Bakar, Selangor PKR's information chief, was also present.

Fahmi, who was the Communications and Digital Minister, said he had never asked for or lobbied for any attempts to become a minister.

"I knew I was going to be minister five minutes before Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced it on TV.

"I had friends contact me to tell me that I was being appointed as minister. I said I didn’t know, and I was not interested in knowing. I did not talk to the PM (about positions)," he said.

He said it is a joint duty to support the leadership of the prime minister and not to tarnish the name of the party by falling into the pit of humiliation through bad behaviour for personal gain.

"If necessary, we will call the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) to investigate. I told my office staff that if I find out someone has started to wear luxury watches, they should better prepare themselves.

"This is an important matter, we have to remember the basis of our struggle and idealism. We must remember each other to understand what it is we are struggling for," he said.
