Wan Rosdy to contest the Umno vice president post
KUANTAN - Pahang Umno chairman Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail will run for the Umno vice president post.
Wan Rosdy confirmed this, saying the nomination form was delivered to the Umno headquarters at 3 pm on Friday.
He said the decision was made after taking into account Umno's image and performance, which are seen as deteriorating in the eyes of the people, especially after the 15th General Election (GE15).
"Based on that realisation, I intend to step in and devote my service to the party to restore confidence in the largest Malay party.
"Hopefully, based on our efforts, prayers, and hopes, this decision will bring about a positive outcome for the sake of the party," he said in a statement on Friday.
Rosdy said Umno should be recognised for his experience and contributions to the party throughout his time there, especially during his first victory in the Cameron Highlands Parliament by election after GE14.
"Umno and Barisan Nasional (BN)'s rise in Cameron Highlands which continued in Semenyih, Rantau, Tanjung Piai Kimanis, Chini and Slim River," he said.
He said Pahang Umno had aided the party during Pakatan Harapan's governance and contributed to the party's victory in the Sabah, Melaka, and Johor state elections.
"Pahang Umno had quickly risen after GE15 by winning the Tioman State Assembly, which became the party's last stronghold in the last political tsunami.
"Many expected BN to lose badly like what happened in Padang Serai, but we managed to defend the Tioman seat," he said.
He claimed that in GE15, Pahang Umno successfully defended 17 state assembly seats, demonstrating its ability to withstand a political tsunami at the time.
"Based on these successes and the results of discussions with friends, they have asked me to continue my service and share this winning formula with the party in a much more meaningful way through the position of vice president.
"Insya-Allah, armed with passion, dedication, and all the experience I have, I am determined to help the party leadership, especially the president and deputy president, to ensure Umno rises once again to win the hearts of the people," he said.
