Budget 2023: Education Ministry welcomes allocation
HAJAR UMIRA MD ZAKI KOUSALYA SELVAMKUALA LUMPUR - Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek welcomes the allocation given to the ministry via the revised Budget 2023.
Fadhlina, in a press conference, said the ministry will also allocate a budget to empower the national language.
"We have an allocation of RM20 million for Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (DBP) for the Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books (ITBM) which will be focusing targeted projects related to empowering the Malay language," she said.
The Education Ministry, as usual, got the lion's share of the budget with RM55.2 billion compared to last year's RM52.6 billion.
Fadhlina said the highlight of the budget was the allocation of RM2.3 billion for the infrastructure and learning facilities.
"Plus, another RM930 million will be allocated to improve the school buildings, which involve 300 poor schools nationwide, specifically in Sabah and Sarawak, through a special procurement aligned with the Education Ministry’s core principles.
"Next, RM900 million more for the maintenance of all types of schools, including Sekolah Kebangsaan, Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina, and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil," she said.
She also added the significance of providing 50,000 laptops for schools, which also aligned with the ministry’s seventh core.
"It was to ensure the capability of digital education in schools and educational institutions," she added.
