Govt allocates up to RM200 million for disaster preparedness
KOUSALYA SELVAM HAJAR UMIRA MD ZAKIKUALA LUMPUR - The government has allocated up to RM200 million for the National Disaster Management Agency (NADMA), Malaysia Armed Forces, Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) and People's Volunteer Corps (Rela).
Finance Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said that the allocations are to aid these agencies to work efficiently and increase their prepar preparedness in dealing with any disasters.
"NADMA was provided RM150 million for their asset needs, warning system and disaster relief to victims.
"RM50 million were provided for The Malaysian Armed Forces, Bomba and Rela in order to prepare their equipment and assets for facing any type of disaster," he said during the retabling of Budget 2023.
Anwar who is also the Prime Minister said he was impressed with the Malaysian rescue team's performance in Turkey.
"The performance of our rescue team in Turkey has been great. "We hope we can maintain this performance by investing in our disaster efficiency management and streamlining the level of disaster preparedness in this country," he said.
Anwar also said the government will allocate RM20 million under 'Geran Pertubuhan Prihatin Komuniti' which will benefit 2,000 residents associations.
