Wan Saiful steps down as Bersatu info chief

KUALA LUMPUR - Bersatu information chief Datuk Wan Saiful Wan Jan has resigned.

This follows the bribery charges framed against him involving RM6.9 million at the Sessions Court, here, yesterday.

The Tasek Gelugor MP said he had informed his intention to resign to Bersatu president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and the party’s secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin

“Following the political prosecution by the Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) government, I decided to ask the (Bersatu) president and the entire supreme council to decide on my position as the information chief.

“I suggested for the post to be held by other individuals in the party instead. There are many figures who are qualified and able to take the responsibility.

“This decision is in line with the principles of integrity and struggle that have been carried over the years. This is also to distinguish me from the court cluster in PH and BN today,” he said in a press conference at the Parliament lobby, today.

Holding on to his principles, Wan Saiful said he made the decision to let go of the executive post until his name was cleared through the legal process.

He also reminded people to not compare him to the court cluster.

“I happily, voluntarily and without a doubt, have let go of this position while they (court cluster) sought and used executive positions for their own interests.

"I will also not hesitate to take further legal action if anyone tries to taint my name after this," he said.

Wan Saiful said he was confident that his decision will have a positive impact on Bersatu, proving that the party and PN was firm in practicing its principles and not being hypocritical by using its position for personal gains.

Yesterday, Wan Saiful pleaded not guilty at the Sessions Court to two counts of corruption involving some RM6.9 million linked to the Jana Wibawa programme.
